Geneva Wines Awards 2018 / Sélection des Vins de Genève 2018

Boar award goes to the Domaine de la République et Canton de Genève

The 19th annual Sélection des Vins de Genève awards were held Wednesday 20th of June at Geneva’s Hôtel de Ville in the presence of a large crowd from the worlds of hotels and restaurants, tourism and the wine industry. Gold medals were given to 49 wines and six special prizes were offered; the wines selected have the canton’s patronage for national and international wine competitions as well as presentations of Geneva wines at home and abroad.

Thierry Anet received the coveted boar sculpture from Antonio Hodgers, cantonal councillor with responsibility for the Department of the Territority which includes agriculture and viticulture. The boar is awarded to the wine with the highest number of points in the cantonal wine selection, and this year it goes to a Pinot Noir from the République et Canton de Genève.

The muscat 2017 from the Clos des Pins won the bronze young boar prize, which is offered by students at the Ecole Hôtelière de Genève. It was given by two students from the school, Rossella Tuveri and Nathanael Richli.

The bronze fox sculpture, the prize for the favourite wine selected by the canton’s café and restaurant business, went to the Rosé de Garanoir 2017 of the Burgdorfer family from the Domaine du Paradis. It was handed out by Jean-Luc Piguet, vice-president of the cafés and restaurants association.

The press prize, an engraving of a weasel, went to the red assemblage "Esprit de Genève" 2015 from Bernard Bosseau of the Domaine de la Planta. It was given by journalist Pierre Thomas.

The "Tradition" Trophy, a magnificent engraving showing an eagle’s nest, rewards the winery with the highest combined average score for its Chasselas and Gamay. It is offered by the Compagnie des Vieux-Grenadiers and was given to Sarah Meylan of the Domaine de la Vigne Blanche by Thierry Aeschbacher, vice-president of the Vieux-Grenadiers.

Finally, the sculpture of a kite bird, a new prize offered by Swiss Wine Promotion for the best sparkling wine, was given to Bernard Bosseau of the Domaine de la Planta for its “Azimut” 2012 by Thuy-San Dinh, director of the Antigel Festival.
