The village Geneva specialties like cardoons, longeole sausage, tomme cheese, and poire à rissole cookies are still actively part of collective memory and culinary tradition. But few people know, for example, that Geneva is Switzerland’s biggest producer of tomatoes, eggplant and salads, or that Switzerland’s largest winemaking community is in Geneva, In an era when across-the-board communication is crucial, a significant number of people are out of touch with the important role agriculture plays in our society. The link between the countryside and products they see stocked in stores is anything but clearly established. So for agriculture to make its presence felt at big trade fairs like the Foire de Genève has become a necessity so that the message – and the products themselves – gets through to significant numbers of people. To this effect, a long-term partnership agreement between Genève Région-Terre Avenir and Foire de Genève management has evolved.
