Village concept

The Genève Région-Terre Avenir stand set up at the Foire de Genève expo every year is based on the idea of a village, both in terms of spirit (compact area where people are friendly to each other) and the kinds of shops you would find in a village.

Besides being an attractive setting for presenting agricultural products like fruit, cheese, vegetables, charcuterie and flowers, one of the stand’s main priorities is to function as a kind of platform for communication with the visitor cum consumer and help them learn more about what is grown in Geneva.

The village is made up of:

- a cheese store, where cheese-based dishes are sold, particularly those made with “Jean-Louis” brand cheeses like Tonneau. This natural soft cheese has a lot of character and is produced using traditional Swiss cheese-making methods.

 - a butcher shop, where a large selection of sausages and cured meats, along with terrines of pork and buffalo meat, can be tasted and are also available to buy. A Geneva specialty called longeole, dubbed “the sausage like no other” and once considered something you ate only if you couldn’t afford better, has become extremely popular largely due to the efforts of a group that got it qualified for IGP (Indication Géographique Protégée) appellation, a federally controlled trademark given to some products with a long history of production in a given geographic area.

 - a fine foods shop, where jam, honey and more are sold.

-  a bakery featuring items made with Geneva flours milled at  the Moulin de la Pallanterie in Vésenaz. This is also your chance to sample poire à rissole cookies, with a pear filling, that are traditionally eaten during Christmas holidays in both Geneva and Savoy.

- a wine cellar, where fine Geneva wines can be tasted and purchased.

- a fruit & veg store, where soups, salads, fruit juice and more are sold. Food can be enjoyed on the spot or taken out.

A square in the middle of the village serves as meeting place for visitors.
